It’s National Popcorn Day. According to, the actual day is up for debate, but January 19 is the first of the debatable dates. Popcorn has long been heralded as a delicious nutrition packed snack. It’s packed with polyphenol antioxidants known to help destroy cancer causing free radicals.

Here are some fun facts from

• Air-popped popcorn has only 31 calories per cup; oil-popped popcorn has only 55 calories per cup.
• 3 cups of popcorn equal one serving from the grain group.
• Popcorn contains fiber, providing roughage the body needs in the daily diet.
• Popcorn is ideal for between meal snacking since it satisfies and doesn’t spoil an appetite.

While plain popcorn is the healthiest, dressing it can make for a tastier treat. You can pop it in a pan and drizzle a tablespoon of olive or coconut oil over it, sprinkle sea salt and sugar for kettle corn, or add spices like curry, cayenne, cinnamon and salt for a more savory treat.

    Phew! Then I am glad we got some Cheese Popcorn at Tom’s Farms yesterday (it is a local place well known for it’s delicious popcorns)

    Popcorn is my favorite snack! I love to pop it with coconut oil and try to find any excuse to eat it! I love the premise of your page….I often feel like my Pinterest page is a wasteland of amazing but unused ideas! I’m looking forward to the SITS challenge this week!

      Thanks for reading and for the feedback. I’m pretty new and wonder if anyone is paying attention. 🙂 I have amassed sooo many recipes that I felt the need to share. I think I’m going to also add some healthy and beauty tips from the kitchen as well. I’m a work in progress so stay tuned. 🙂 Add I will have to try adding coconut oil to my popcorn.
